A tornado watch continues for Lauderdale County and East Central Mississippi until 1 p.m. Saturday, according to a National Weather Service update at 9:13 a.m.
Counties in East Mississippi under the watch include Clarke, Jasper, Kemper, Lauderdale, Neshoba and Newton.
Severe thunderstorms and tornadoes are possible, generally east of the Mississippi River. Some thunderstorms could produce damaging winds of 60 to 70 mph and hail at least to the size of quarters.
Rain is in the forecast throughout Saturday, with chances decreasing as the day goes on.
At 8:52 a.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Meridian, moving northeast at 55 mph, according to the Weather Service. Radar indicated rotation and the area was under a tornado warning until 9:30 a.m.
