Ja’Karius Grant finished with 148 yards and three touchdowns for West Lauderdale as the Knights defeated Newton County 32-16 in Friday night prep football action at Newton County.

Quarterback Jackson Parker had seven carries for 97 yards and a touchdown, and Caleb Collins added 44 yards and a score on 10 rushes. Parker was also 9 of 14 for 88 yards passing. Defensively, Jordan Gowdy finished with 4 1/2 tackles and two sacks, and cornerback Jordan Nix also had a sack.

For Newton County, quarterback Grey Hale was 12-for-21 with 131 yards and a touchdown passing. Tyron Henderson caught six passes for 46 yards, and Koye Hardaway had three catches for 50 yards, while Tylan McNichols finished with two catches for 35 yards and a touchdown. Colin Crowder had a rushing touchdown for the Cougars, and LT Phillips finished with 40 yards on three rushes. 


The Bulldogs finished with 559 yards of total offense as Clarkdale rolled past Tupelo Christian Friday on the road to open its season.

Mason Horne had 18 carries for 140 yards and two touchdowns, while Drake Shirley tallied 27 rushes for 187 yards and two scores. Lance Rawson chipped in with 78 yards on 13 carries for the Bulldogs.

Quarterback Cal Culpepper finished 3 of 6 for 67 yards and a touchdown passing and also rushed 10 times for 80 yards and a score. Parker Webb finished with 14 yards on four carries, and Landon Belk caught three passes for 67 yards and a touchdown.


Christian Gray went 3-for-6 for 95 yards and a touchdown passing and also had 40 yards and a touchdown on the ground for Southeast Lauderdale as the Tigers beat Hamilton Friday to open their season.

Caleb Fowler finished with six carries for 81 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers, and he also tallied eight tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble on defense. Lakendric Ivy rushed five times for 82 yards, and Quacedric Walk had an 80-yard touchdown reception for Southeast Lauderdale.

Defensively, Russell Boykin finished with 10 tackles and a fumble recovery, and Kwamaar O’Neal had two tackles and an interception return for a touchdown. 


Gavyn Dear rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown, and Zee Sims added 102 yards on eight carries as Enterprise beat Lake Friday to open its season.

Quarterback Derryon Gray finished 2-for-4 passing for 59 yards and a touchdown, and he also rushed eight times for 42 yards and a touchdown. Trace Roy had a rushing touchdown and finished with 27 yards on eight attempts.

Jake Williams caught a 48-yard touchdown pass from Gray. Defensively, Ridge Jackson led with six tackles and one tackle for loss, while Parks Burt had two tackles and one sack.
