Services for Richard L. Smith will be held today at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church with the Revs. Johnny Mullinax and Todd Thompson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Milling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smith, 80, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. He was a member of Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in World War II in the Pacific Theatre.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Frances Smith of Decatur; a daughter, Janet Reeves and her husband, Roger, of Meridian; a son, Rick Smith and his wife, Susan, of Decatur; grandchildren, Hayley Valentine and her husband, Greg, of Meridian and Keith Reeves of Birmingham, Ala.; a great-grandchild, Stephanie Valentine of Meridian; a step-great-grandchild, Matthew Valentine of Meridian; a sister, Georgia Canon and her husband, Whit, of Albemarle, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Meredith Smith of Mobile, Ala. and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Evie Smith; brothers, Harold Smith, Charlie Lewis Smith and Lyndall Smith.

Pallbearers will be Mike Addy, Ray Addy, Jody Addy, Charles Boggan, Larry Apperson and Bruce Terrell.
