NATCHEZ (AP) — Officials say construction is about 60 percent complete at a new private prison in southwest Mississippi.
The facility will be run by Nashville-based Corrections Corporation of America and will hold low- to medium-security federal prisoners.
Senior project manager Bobby Smith says construction on the $105 million facility started in July 2007 and should be finished by early December.
The new prison sits on 80 acres just off U.S. Highway 84 near Natchez. Its four buildings will house up to 1,600 inmates.
About 325 prison employees are set to start work in January.
