Suspect in Meridian double murder arrested in Kemper County

The Kemper County Sheriff’s Department on Friday captured a suspect in a May double murder in Meridian.

Kemper County Sheriff James Moore said Cedric Rogers was taken into custody around 11:20 a.m. inside of a home located at 7664 Kemper Springs Rd. off Hwy. 45 in Kemper County.

According to Moore, Rogers was with another person inside the home when he was arrested. Found inside the home were some narcotics, a stolen gun from Louisiana, a television, cameras, and a Playstation.

Meridian Police Chief Benny Dubose said Rogers has been charged with two counts of capital murder in the shooting deaths of Talimon Edwards and Elbert Earl Carpenter, Jr. 

The double homicide took place on May 29 around 7:30 p.m. at 22nd Street and 44th Ave. in Meridian.
