The Meridian Star is providing several ways for voters to become informed about the issues and candidates in the race for mayor of the city of Meridian.
• A series of videos are being published at meridianstar.com, showing Mayor Percy Bland, the Democratic candidate, Republican William Compton and independent Dustin Markham responding to questions from The Star’s editorial board. The Star met with each of the candidates and asked them 13 questions about issues that affect Meridian. A new video is being posted daily.
• The candidates have written guest columns on four topics, which are being published Tuesdays during May on the opinion page and at meridianstar.com. Topics include issues such as business development, crime, infrastructure and community image. Already published columns are available at meridianstar.com.
• The Meridian Star is partnering with WTOK to sponsor a forum with the three candidates at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The hour and a half long forum will be live streamed on meridianstar.com and WTOK.com and broadcast live on MyTOK2, digital channel 11.2 and Comcast Channel 2. It will be rebroadcast at 10:35 p.m. on Sunday, May 28, immediately after Newscenter 11@10, and it will remain available on our websites.
• Readers may also participate in the discussion by writing letters to the editor. Letters regarding the June 6 general elections must be received by May 26. Letters may be up to 150 words and may be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org or submitted through the letters to the editor prompt on www.meridianstar.com.
