The Meridian Museum of Art is now accepting entries for its 15th Annual People’s Choice Art Competition.

Terry Heder, museum director, said the show gives museum visitors the chance to choose the winners. The deadline to enter the 2006 competition is Saturday, May 13.

“The competition is open to any artist, of any experience level, age 15 or older,” Heder said.

“Artists can submit up to three pieces of artwork to be considered for the competition. Works of all type are featured in the show, including — but not limited to — oil paintings, photographs, printmaking, watercolors, pottery, assemblages, sculpture, stained glass, pastels, quilts, egg tempera and mixed media works.”

The opening reception and voting kick-off for the competition will be Saturday, June 3, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Judges in the competition will be museum visitors. For $1, each person may cast one ballot during the competition. Visitors can vote not only for the Best in Show winner, but also in each of the individual categories.

Voting will continue through 5 p.m. on Friday, July 7. Award winners in the competition will be announced at a gala awards reception on Saturday, July 8.

The museum, 628 25th Ave., is open Tuesday through Sunday from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. To obtain an entry form for the People’s Choice, or for more information, come by the museum, call (601) 693-1501, or e-mail MeridianMuseum@aol.com.
