The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) invites the public to review and make final comments on the statewide, long-range transportation plan prior to submission to the Federal Highway Administration for approval, according to Larry L. “Butch” Brown, executive director.

The document, known as MULTIPLAN (Mississippi’s Unified Long-range Transportation Infrastructure Plan), may be viewed online at www.MDOTmultiplan.com. Individuals who may not have home access to the internet are encouraged to visit their local public libraries and log on there.

“The Mississippi Department of Transportation is working with public libraries and the Mississippi Library Commission to make this draft plan available to anyone for review and comments,” Brown said. “With the help of Sharman Smith, executive director of the Library Commission, and public librarians across the state, anyone can walk into a public library, log onto the internet and review and make comments on MULTIPLAN.”

Brown said comments concerning the plan may be emailed to MDOT from the MULTIPLAN Web site by clicking on the button labeled “contact us.”

Also, interested individuals may contact Robby Burt, MDOT state planning manager, at (601) 359-7685.

MULTIPLAN is an ongoing planning strategy for meeting future transportation needs. The purpose is to seamlessly link all modes of transportation statewide as efficiently, economically and safely as possible.

MDOT has been working with local government officials, industry leaders, economic development officials and the general public to gather data for the development of MULTIPLAN.

“Input from as many people, agencies, organizations, and industries as possible is critical for the development of a sound plan,” Brown said. “By identifying future needs through a sound planning process that involves all players, solutions can be more easily accomplished.”
