An accidental shooting in Collinsville hospitalized a man with non-fatal injuries early Sunday morning after a group of men passed around a loaded gun.
The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department responded to a home on the 11100 block of Hill Thompson Road, Collinsville, shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday, Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun said.
Calhoun said the men were showing each other their guns in the residence and one forgot the check the loaded gun when it was passed back to him. The man didn't realize the chamber of the gun, which operated similar to a Glock, had been pulled back. When he attempted to pull the trigger to check the gun it went off, accidentally shooting another man in the back.
The man went to a local hospital and had surgery and is in stable condition, Calhoun said.
