Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department authorities are probing into the death Sunday of an inmate being held at the East Mississippi Correctional Facility at Lost Gap on Highway 80 West.
LCSD Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun said Monday afternoon LCSD detectives were called to the facility after an inmate, 53-year-old Larry Drummond, was found dead at about 2 p.m. by guards in one of the shower areas of the facility.
"We are not sure at this time if his death was from natural causes or not," Calhoun said. "That is why we are looking into this incident. Right now we don't have any reason to believe there was any foul play but we will still continue the investigation until we have resolved the circumstances surrounding the death."
According to the Mississippi Department of Corrections website, Drummond was serving a five-year sentence for felony malicious mischief out of Forrest County. He entered the prison system in June 2009.
