A new historical marker was unveiled early Wednesday morning where the home of Mayor E.H. Dial was located. The house was built by his father. Dial's term lasted from 1893-1901 during which the first Union Station and the Opera House were built. Dial also coined Meridian as the "Queen City." Mayor John Robert Smith, left, helps the only remaining relatives of Dial, great-grandchildren, Terry Rush and Linda Martin, reveal the new marker. The photograph of Mayor Dial in front of his home is included in the book "Historic Photos of Mississippi," published by Turner Publishing Company. The text and captions were written by Anne B. McKee of Meridian.
