Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's department said Tuesday the manhunt for Patrick Smith continues.
“This guy is trying to be Jesse James,” Calhoun said. “We've placed him in Newton County; he was in York, Alabama as of last Friday.”
Patrick Smith, who is wanted for burglary and has currently avoided custody so far, is thought to also be involved in an attempted church burglary that happened near Kewanee.
“The church was broken into, the alarm went off and our deputies responded. We located a pickup truck that was stolen out of the city that had a number of stolen items in it. Some of those items came from a burglary we had on Friday, and based on evidence from the vehicle (we) were able to determine he was the person in that vehicle at least at some point in time. However, in the case of the church, nothing was stolen,” Calhoun said.
Those with information about the suspect's location could be in for an enticing reward.
“With the amount of charges Smith has; the Crimestopper reward will be considerable,” Calhoun said.
If you or anyone you know may know where Patrick Smith is, you are asked to call Crimestoppers at 601-485-1860.
