The Meridian Symphony Association, Inc. has announced the resignation of Executive Director Mark Altekruse, who joined the organization in January of 2011.  Altekruse's final day with the organization will be Oct. 21. He has accepted a new position as a sales manager for a company in the pro audio industry and, along with his wife, Wendy, and their two sons, Alex and Max, will be relocating to San Jose, Calif.

“It has been and honor and a privilege to serve as the executive director for this wonderful organization,” Altekruse said. “The decision to leave is bittersweet.  We leave behind great friends, family, and many new friendships I have made with patrons and supporters of our wonderful symphony orchestra.

"I will especially miss working so closely with Susie Johnson, Condon Hughes and Maestro Rubardt, as well as so many others on the Board of Directors who dedicate so much of their time and energy into making the MSO a truly successful orchestra.”

The MSA, Inc. also announced that Susie Johnson, the MSA’s education director, will be acting as interim executive director until the organization finds the right candidate to replace Altekruse

The president of MSA, Dr. Condon Hughes, remarked, “Mark Altekruse brought a new level of expertise and ability to the MSA at a critical juncture in the history of the MSO. While we will miss his expertise, we are happy for him and wish he and his family great success in the future.”

When asked about the recruiting process for replacing Altekruse, Hughes said, “We have already established a search committee consisting of a few members of the Board of Directors, our Music Director Peter Rubardt, and we have also enlisted Wade Jones from EMBDC.

"With this team in place, we will be able to conduct a proper search for an individual who has the requisite skills to operate a symphony orchestra and drive the organization to greater successes in the future.”

Hughes also stated that anyone interested in applying for the position should send a current resume and cover letter to meridiansymphony@att.net.
