The fun just keeps coming with the Summer Reading Program at Meridian/Lauderdale County Public Library.

In addition to experiencing the joy of reading, program participants also have the opportunity to attend a variety of free programs at the library and other locales. Due to the overwhelming response to this year’s Summer Reading Program, the location has been changed for some activities and programs, said Sarah Salem, children’s librarian for M/LC Public Library.

Tuesday, a nutrition and exercise session for ages 2 to grades 4 will begin at 10 a.m. The session has been relocated to the back lawn at city hall in downtown Meridian.

Wednesday, Dr. Fogarty’s “Live Reptiles” will be presented at 3:30 p.m. at the library. The program is open to all ages. And Friday, a hula hoop class for grades fifth through 12th will get under way at 3:30 p.m. at the library.

On June 28, Summer Reading Program participants in grades fifth through 12th will have the opportunity to showcase their artistic skills during a canvas painting session, which begins at 3:30 p.m. at the library.

Meridian storyteller Anne McKee will make a special appearance at the downtown Meridian library on June 29 at 10 a.m. The presentation is open to children ages 2 to second grade.

Rounding out the month of Summer Reading Program activities will be Dr. Magical Balloons, who will perform to program participants of all ages on June 30. The program, which will be held from 4:30-5:30 p.m., has been moved to the MSU Riley Center, 2200 Fifth St., in downtown Meridian.

Activities and programs for July will be announced at a later date.

“On Your Mark, Get Set, READ” is the theme for the 2016 Summer Reading Program at Meridian/Lauderdale County Public Library. According to Salem, participants who complete the program will receives prizes and a certificate. Registration has ended to participate.
