The Center Hill Community Development Club met for its monthly meeting on April 7.

Vice president Norma Pace called the meeting to order and gave membership updates on fellow members Apphia Terry Jewell Brown and Gloria Hughes.

Caroline Wilson gave the devotion by reading a selection about a boy named Walter and the meaning of Easter.

Lou Limerick gave the opening prayer and then Norma introduced the speaker for the evening, Clyde Williams.

Williams is the assistant district manager for the Social Security Administration. He has been with the SSA for more than 30 years. The office moved from downtown Meridian about three years ago to a site just off of North Hills Street.

Williams began by talking about the changes he has seen in his years. The SSA as a whole is in the process of automation. Already many things can be accomplished online and by phone. One can even file for disability online. SSA’s goal is to be a “paperless” entity.

The Meridian office, for instance, has gone from 35 employees to 15 employees in recent years. The services provided include Social Security benefits, disability and death benefits. Williams did point out that the only thing the SSA has to do with Medicare and the Medicare Part D program is filling out the paperwork.

A short question-and-answer period followed and everyone was very interested in Williams’ presentation.

Refreshments were served by the hostesses. The meeting was called back to order after refreshments and various committee reports were given.

Lou Limerick received the April Yard of the Month award.

Virginia White’s safety report was about falls and how to prevent them.

Robin Doerner and Dot Doerner visited the Suqualena Community Development Club during its sponsor night on March 27; Caroline Wilson, Georgia Snowden and Lou Limerick attended Long Creek Community Development Club’s sponsor night on April 12.

Robin Doerner led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance and the meeting was adjourned.
