Capital murder trial begins in Gulfport

GULFPORT, Miss. —  

Jury selection is under way in the capital murder trial of Kewan Antonio Hosey, suspected in two home invasions including one that led to the fatal shooting of 30-year-old Courtney Beavers.

Hosey also is on trial for an armed robbery that occurred during a different home invasion the same night in 2010.

Prosecutors say the 22-year-old Hosey is suspected of planning both holdups and fatally shooting Beavers in an attempted robbery at Beavers' apartment in Gulfport.

The Sun Herald reports the trial opened Monday in Harrison County Circuit Court.

Beavers was found dead July 2, 2010. He was shot in the chest.

Hosey was among four people arrested in connection with both incidents.
