Local 4-H'ers attend Club Congress

TRACY ROBERTSON

The 4-H Project/Club year generally kicks off during the fall and flows with the school year. At the end of each year, we hold the state and district contests to exhibit everything the youth have learned through the year in their different projects. These events include public speaking, wildlife judging, a talent contest, robotics and more.

This year, Lauderdale County 4-H attended the state event known as Club Congress in Starkville, with 18 delegates representing the program. All the individuals that went did an outstanding job and we are so proud of them. Those individuals include Symone Bounds, Breauna Bounds, Sarah Burns, Courtney Cunningham, Jadqueona Davis, Kimberly Ford, Laurie Gross, Natalie Gross, LaQuanda Harvey, Demarkus Johnson, Jasmine Lawson, Justin Lucky, Christin Peters, Drew Phillips, LaQuita Roberts, Ashley Swearingen, Ashley Watkins and Caleb Wright.

Projects that were competed in from Lauderdale County included: Robotics, Wildlife Judging, Public Speaking, Photography Visual Presentation, Photography Track, Other Projects Visual Presentation, Meats Judging, Dairy Products Judging, Seed ID, Interior Design and Pet Care Visual Presentation along with our Share-the-Fun winners.

During Club Congress, individuals who are 14-18 years of age are allowed to compete in the many different contest areas. If you are 8-13 years old, you are allowed to compete in the District Project Achievement Day. This is a one-day event held in Hattiesburg that contains that same type of visual presentations, judging events, and talent event as Club Congress. This year Leah Burns, Harleigh Smith, and Summer Roberts competed in public speaking, cloverleaf visual presentation and wildlife judging.

As I have said before, and I will say again, 4-H is a wonderful organization to become involved with. There are an array of projects to work with and gather more knowledge about. If you are interested in becoming a part of the Lauderdale County 4-H, please give us a call or e-mail us at lauderda@ext.msstate.edu
