MERIDIAN —     Play in the Division 5-6A tournament will have to wait a few days following the tornado that hit Hattiesburg on Sunday.

The tournament, which will decide which two teams will move on to the MHSAA state basketball playoff, was set to begin today at Petal. However, the elimination round of the four-team tournament is now postponed until Thursday.

Those first slate of games include the Meridian High girls facing host Petal, while the MHS boys will play Oak Grove. With wins, the MHS teams would advance to Friday's championship games.

MCC series versus Bossier postponed

The Meridian Community College Eagles are the middle of a 15-game home stand and its three-game series against Bossier Parish has been postponed. The series between the Eagles and Cavaliers was scheduled to begin Tuesday night at 6 p.m. with a single game, but the game has been postponed due to more forecasted rain in the Meridian area for Tuesday.

MCC is now scheduled to return to action Wednesday afternoon in a doubleheader against Bossier Parish beginning at noon.
