EMCC roars past Rangers on road

MERIDIAN — The East Mississippi Community College football team has rewritten its record books again, exploding in the third quarter for a program best 51 points in one quarter en route to a 79-7 win over Northwest Mississippi Community College.

The Rangers became the first team this season to score on the EMCC defense in the first half, with their only touchdown of the the night. Karsten Miller punched in a 1-yard touchdown to knot the game at 7-7 with 11:36 left in the second quarter.

The score ignited a fire in the Lions as they retailed with three touchdowns before the half ended as they scored 72 unanswered points.

The run was sparked by a 5-yard touchdown pass from Dontreal Pruitt to CJ bates with 6:13 left in the first half. Todd Mays followed with a 5-yard run roughly three minutes later. Pruitt then found Antoinne Adkins for a 54-yard pass with 57 seconds left in the second quarter.

EMCC came out of the half just as hot as they went into it. Pruitt nailed a 33-yard pass to Justin Mack for the first score of a record setting quarter in which the Lions score 51 points.

In the 15-minute quarter, EMCC scored five touchdown in the air, three on the ground and the defense recorded a safety to rack up 231 yards of offense.

Before the start of the fourth quarter, the coaches elected to start the clock at 10 minutes and let it run continuously, resulting in no scoring drives on either side.

Pruitt led the Lions on 24-of-39 for 334 yards and seven touchdowns with one interception and one sack. Mays took three snaps, all successful, for 58 yards and one touchdown. Running back Lakenderic Thomas rushes 199 yards on 11 carries. Adkins led the receiving duties with eight catches for 104 yards.
