MERIDIAN —     The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles continued its winning ways Tuesday afternoon by taking a 3-0 victory over East Central at C.D. Smith Field.

The Lady Eagles are enjoying a historic 2013 season and one player rewrote the history books at MCC Tuesday. Freshman Kayla Phillips recorded her 14th assist of the season which breaks a school record set by Terra Moore (2006) and Holly Head (2007). Phillips played her high school soccer at Clarkdale High School.

Former Meridian High stars Merrick Watkins and MeMe Huff each scored a goal apiece in the victory, while sophomore Kristen Morris added a goal for the Lady Eagles.

Huff now has 20 goals for the season and is just seven goals away from tying a school record in goals scored by Holly Head in 2007 of 27 goals.

The MCC men were unable to complete the sweep as the Warriors defeated the Eagles by a final score of 3-0.

MCC will return to action next Wednesday in another key MACJC South Division doubleheader against Co-Lin beginning at 5 p.m.
