NEL gets shutout vs. Quitman

MERIDIAN — Starting pitcher Ben Smith pitched a shutout as Northeast Lauderdale High School defeated Quitman High School, 4-0, in Tuesday night baseball action.

Smith pitched seven innings, striking out nine and surrendering just two hits, to secure the win. He was also 2-for-4 at the plate.

Offensively, the Trojans’ tallied 11 hits, and Blake Sanders went 2-for-2, while LaDale Cockrell finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Devin Sisson also went 2-for-2, and Haze Bosarge went 2-for-3.

Northeast (7-2, 1-0) will play at 7 p.m. Friday at Quitman.
