Warren, Meridian get win vs. Southeast

MERIDIAN — Tray Warren got the win for Meridian High School as the Wildcats got their first victory of the season in a 6-1 win against Southeast Lauderdale High School Wednesday.

J-Mar Smith picked up the save for Meridian (1-2), and Corey Davis had two hits for the Wildcats, one of which was a two-run home run. Jamal Horn also tallied two hits for Meridian.

“I think everything went a lot better than it did this past weekend,” head coach Robert Cole said. “We threw strikes and didn’t walk a lot of people, and when you don’t put people on and give them free passes, a lot of good things happen. We swung the bats well and had timely hits, and that’s the key to winning baseball games.”

Southeast coach Shay Cooper could not be reached for comment. The two teams will square off again Friday, this time at Southeast.
