Southeast wins 10-0 over West Marion 10-10 to advance

MERIDIAN — The Southeast Lauderdale baseball team advanced to the 3A South State semifinals with a 10-0 win over West Marion at home Tuesday night.

Nathan Ross (6-2) earned the win on the mound for the Tigers, going all five innings while allowing only two hits and striking out one batter.

The game remained scoreless through the first three innings, as both teams  struggled to get any offense going at the plate.

Southeast scratched across a run in the bottom of the fourth to go up 1-0 before exploding in the bottom of the fifth for nine runs to clinch the game.

The Tigers began the fifth with six consecutive hits. After a walk, Southeast strung together three more hits, including a walk-off, two-run single by James Gibson to end the game.

“That was as good an inning as we have ever had,” Southeast Lauderdale baseball coach Shay Cooper said. “You don’t see that very often.”

Cody Shirley and Dylan Rivers led the Tigers at the plate, both going two-for-three at the plate while accounting for two runs batted in apiece. Mason Irby and Hunter Thrower both had doubles on the night, and Andrew Black also delivered two RBIs in the win.

Southeast (22-8) will play the winner of the Pass Christian vs. St. Andrews game on Thursday. If Pass Christian wins, Southeast will host Pirates on Friday night. If St. Andrews wins, the Tigers will travel on the road to take on the Saints on Friday.
