Tigers find their footing, beat Choctaw Co., 60-42

    Newton County girls' basketball is off to a good start on the season, knocking of St. Andrew's 68-33 on Tuesday night.

    The Cougars raced out to a 30-4 lead after just the opening quarter. They took a 44-10 lead into halftime.

    Dallmarika King lead Newton County with 15 points. She had help from Kayla Sheppard (13), Leteshia Davis (10), Mary Snowden (7) and Kaylin McGree (6).

    The Cougars will be on their home court on Friday, when they host Choctaw Central at 6 p.m.

Central Academy    44

Newton County Academy    32

    The Newton County Generals girls' basketball team are still in search of its first win of the season after suffer at 44-32 loss to Macon Central at home on Tuesday night.

    NCA was led by Alexa Roberts and Sky Watson, each with eight points. Macon's Blake Rigdon was the game's high scorer with 15 points.

    The Generals will hit the road on Friday, playing at Park Place after the junior high teams finish.

Boys' Basketball

Newton Co. 66

St. Andrews    31

    Newton County boys' basketball completed the Cougar sweep of St. Andrew's with a 66-31 win on Tuesday night.

    After jumping out to a slim lead, 13-10 in the first quarter, they put up 21 second-quarter points to take a 34-17 lead into half time.

    The Cougars were led by DeAndre Wansley with 16 points and nine rebounds. Isaiah Lewis and Devonta Hodge each had 10 points. DeRyan Wansley had nine rebounds.

    The Cougars will be on their home court on Friday, when they host Choctaw Central at 7:30 p.m.

Central Academy    32

    The Newton County Academy boys' basketball team moved to even on the season with a 68-32 win over Central Academy on Tuesday night.

    The Generals used big first and third quarters to out pace the vikings.

    Nick Pennington finished the night with his first double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Chance COllins put up 14 points and Brandon Harriosn grabbed 11 rebounds. Drew Hillman (six points) connected on his only two shots of the game, each good for three points in the second half.

    The Generals (1-1) will hit the road on Friday, playing at Park Place after the girls' game finishes.
