EMCC to be well represented at MACJC All-Star Basketball games

SCOOBA — Seven East Mississippi Community College basketball players will have one more opportunity to don the school’s red, white and black uniform colors during Friday’s Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-Star Basketball Games, which will be hosted by East Central Community College.

    A 5 p.m. women’s game pitting MACJC North Division All-Stars versus MACJC South Division All-Stars will be followed by a 7 p.m. men’s contest. Scheduled to represent head coach Sharon Thompson’s EMCC Lady Lions will be Wilma Davis (West Point), Kyra Gulledge (H.W. Byers), Takera Mitchell (Wayne County) and Charmane Tims (Clarkdale). In the men’s game, head coach Mark White’s EMCC Lions are slated to be represented by Davon “Chuck” Ester (Biloxi), Nick Giles (Kemper County) and Justin Kinsey (Yazoo City).

    While having the honor of representing their respective junior college teams by wearing their schools’ actual game uniforms during the all-state contests, the selected players and coaches are scheduled to report to the Pearl River Resort on Thursday. They are also slated to be treated to a motivational speech by current Dalton State College head basketball coach and accomplished author Tony Ingle prior to Friday’s all-star action.   

    The women’s coaches will be Don Edwards of Northwest Mississippi (North) and Southwest Mississippi’s Brent Harris. On the sidelines for the men’s game will be Bubba Skelton and Casey Carter from Northwest and Southwest, respectively.

    Both MACJC All-Star basketball games will be streamed live at with Holmes Community College District Director of Communications Steve Diffey calling the play-by-play action. Online access to the contests will also be available through East Central Community College’s website,
