Roundup — Southwest Mississippi sweeps aside Meridian

MERIDIAN —     The Meridian Community College basketball teams didn't find their first road trip of the 2012-2013 season very kind Monday night.

    The MCC women opened by falling to Southwest Mississippi Community College 80-61 and the MCC men dropped the nightcap 91-52.

    The MCC women got an enormous performance from sophomore guard Gelese Lampton, who finished the night with 29 points and seven 3-pointers. Kristen Sampson added 11 points for the 1-1 Eagles. MCC returns to action Thursday at East Mississippi Community at 5:30 p.m.

    Will Sheriff led the way for the 0-2 MCC men with 20 points and Bruce Shelby finished with 14 points. The Eagles play at East Mississippi Community College on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

    The Trojans pulled away in the second half Saturday at the Kemper County Classic after leading 29-26 at the break.

    Henry Anderson paced Northeast (1-0) with 21 points, including three 3-pointers. James Roberts added 14 points and Va’Doll Peeples finished with 10.

    Northeast plays in the West Lauderdale Classic today.
