Swim team takes 10 gold medals

MERIDIAN — The Area 5 Special Olympic Aquatic-Swim Team participated in the Summer Games held at Kessler Air Force Base in Biloxi May 10-12. 

        The athletes participated in the 25 yard backstroke, 25 yard freestyle, 50 yard

backstroke, 50 yard freestyle and 4x25 relay. 

        The six team members earned 10 gold, four silver, one bronze medal and one fourth place ribbon. 

        Winners from Area 5 are: Wilton Cook, gold 25 yard freestyle, gold 50 yard

backstroke; Phillip Spence, silver 50 yard freestyle, gold 50 yard backstroke, gold

4x25 relay; Jaycelyn Collins, silver 50 yd freestyle, bronze 50 yd backstroke, gold

4x25 relay; Christie Roberts, silver 25 yard freestyle, fourth place 25 yd backstroke; Paula Carpenter, silver 25 yard freestyle, gold 25 yard backstroke, gold 4x25 relay; Danny Dasis, gold 50 yard freestyle, gold 50 yard backstroke, gold 4x25 relay.
