Local games rescheduled due to rain

MERIDIAN — Due to heavy rain late Wednesday night and Thursday morning, area baseball and softball playoff series were postponed Thursday.

    In 2A softball, Clarkdale High school rescheduled the first game of their third-round series against Enterprise to 6 p.m tonight pending weather conditions. Games two and three, if necessary, will be played at Enterprise on Saturday with Game 2 beginning at 2 p.m.

     In 3A softball, Philadelphia moved its first game against Raleigh to 6 p.m tonight at Raliegh. Games two and three, if necessary, will be played at Philadelphia on Saturday beginning at 5p.m.

    4A softball, Newton County and West Lauderdale will begin their series tonight from Northeast Park at 6 p.m. Game 2 will be played at 2 p.m. From Newton County with a possible Game 3 following directly after.

    In 5A softball, Neshoba Central will begin its series at home Saturday against tonight Lake Cormorant at 2 p.m.

    In 2A baseball, Clarkdale will begin its series against Richton tonight at 6 p.m. Game 2 will be played at Richton on Saturday at 7 p.m. If necessary, Game 3 will be at Clarkdale on Monday at

    In 3A baseball, Southeast will play Game 1 of its series against West Marion at home tonight at 6:30 p.m. Game 2 will be at West Marion at 6 p.m. Saturday, and a Game three will played at Southeast on Monday at 6:30 p.m if necessary.

    In 4A baseball, West Lauderdale begins its series against Columbia at home tonight at 6 p.m. Game 2 will be at Columbia at 6 p.m., and Game 3 will be played at 6 p.m from West Lauderdale if necessary. Newton County begins its series against Greene County at home tonight at 7 p.m. Game 2 will be played at Greene County at 2 p.m., and a third game will begin directly after if necessary.

    In 5A baseball, Neshoba Central begins its series against Hernando on the road tonight at 7 p.m. The Rockets will host Hernado at 1 p.m. Saturday. If necessary, a Game 3 will be played at Hernando at 6 p.m.

Tennis championships delayed

     Because of inclement weather, the MHSAA State Team Tennis Championship will begin Friday, May 3 at 2:00 PM at the original scheduled sites, weather permitting.

    The individual tennis championships have been rescheduled for May 14-15 at the original sites. This avoids state testing and conflicts with other ongoing sports.
