Generals win regular season finale

MERIDIAN —     The Newton County Academy boys basketball team will head into next week’s district tournament with momentum as they wrapped up the regular season with a 61-33 home win Thursday against Wayne Academy.

    The Generals, who are 13-6, were led by Tre Collins’ 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Chance Collins added 12 points, four assists and five steals. Tanner Smith also posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

    NCA plays Park Place at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the tournament at Veritas.

    The NCA girls weren’t as fortunate in their regular season finale despite 22 points from Katie Bounds and 18 from Faith Hollingswoth.

    The 11-14 Generals will play at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday against Park Place in the district tournament at Veritas.
