Roundup — NCA boys hammer Veritas

MERIDIAN —     The Newton County Academy boys basketball blasted visiting The Veritas School on Thursday, winning 68-43.

    The Generals, who improved to 10-4, were led by Tre’ Collins’ 27 points and 16 rebounds. Chance Collins added 12 points, five steals and six assists, while Tanner Smith also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

    Veritas was led by Justin Davis’ 14.

    NCA visits Mt. Salus Christian today.

    Behind 23 points from Tori Earnhart and 22 from Maryanna Story, Veritas ran away from the host Generals.

    NCA, which fell to 9-11, was led by Faith Hollingsworth’s 11 and Katie Bounds’ 10.

    The Generals visit Mt. Salus Christian today.

SMU hands Southern Miss women second straight loss

    HATTIESBURG — The Southern Miss women’s basketball team lost for the second time in as many games as SMU defeated the Eagles 79-69 in Conference USA action Thursday.

    Jamierra Faulkner led USM (9-11, 1-2) with 24 points, while Nitesha Pierce scored a season-high 17.
