3 ECCC golfers make Regionals

WIGGINS — WIGGINS — East Central Community College’s golf team completed the 2014 campaign by participating in the MACJC State Championship April Tuesday and Wednesday at the Pine Burr Golf Club.

The Warrior linksters carded a two-day total of 639 (319-320) in the 36-hole competition, won by the Meridian Community College team, which shot 606 (315-291).

Mississippi Gulf Coast finished second at 607 (305-302), followed by Copiah-Lincoln, 609 (312-297); East Mississippi, 611 (316-295); Northwest Mississippi, 615 (311-304); Jones County, 629 (321-308); ECCC; Northeast Mississippi, 640 (319-321); and Itawamba, 655 (330-325).

East Central was led by Aaron Tucker, who carded rounds of 80 and 73 for a 153. Tucker is a product of Leake Central High School.

Taylor York of Choctaw Central shot 157 (74-83) for a 157 total, followed by Sawyer Williams, a product of Parkers Chapel in Eldorado, Ark., at 159 (79-80). Sam Williams of Newton County Academy shot a 171 (87-84), and Karlton Ginn of Franklinton (La.) High School carded a 174 (86-88).

Tucker, York and Sawyer Williams qualified to compete in the NJCAA Regionals May 2-3 at the Wolf Hollow Golf Club at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson. Williams was also selected on the MACJC All-State Second Team.
