The Newton County High School baseball team swept the season series against Northeast Lauderdale High School with a 4-1 win Thursday.
Jacob Edwards got the win for Newton County, tossing seven innings of one-run ball. He surrendered seven hits, issued two walks and fanned seven batters.
Northeast’s Landon Keller took the loss despite a strong performance. In seven innings, he gave up four runs — one earned — on two hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.
Newton County’s Peyton Cain finished the game 2-for-4, and Northeast’s Andrew White and Blake Sanders both went 2-for-4. Ladale Cockrell was 2-for-3.
Northeast (9-5, 3-2) will play at West Jones High School Saturday, while Newton County (11-6, 4-1) will play at Southeast Lauderdale High School Saturday.
Southeast Lauderdale High School’s Tae Ramey pitched 4 1/3 innings to get the win for Southeast Lauderdale in Thursday night baseball action.
Ramey gave up four hits while striking out five and walking eight for Southeast.
Offensively, Gage Hagan went 2-for-4 for the Tigers, and James Gipson was also 2-for-4. Both of them had two RBIs.
Southeast will host Quitman and Newton County high schools Saturday.
OAK GROVE 6,
Meridian High School fell to Oak Grove, 6-2, in Thursday night baseball action. No other information on the game was available.
WEST LAUDERDALE 13,

Ana Gilbert got the win for West Lauderdale High School as the Lady Knights blew out Caledonia High School in five innings.
Gilbert pitched all five for West, giving up one run on three hits with four strikeouts. She also had a double at the plate.
Mallory Vance finished 3-for-4 for West, and Mallory Thompson was 2-for-4. Alexa Hogan was 1-for-1 with a double and two walks, and Mallory Wooldridge finished 2-for-3. Cayley Nance had a triple.
West (10-4) will play Meridian at 6:30 p.m. today at Northeast Park.
