Prep roundups: Northeast boys top Forrest Co.

LAUREL — Two Northeast Lauderdale High School boys scored in double figures as the Trojans topped Forrest County, 53-37, in the Region 5-4A tournament Tuesday in Northeast Jones High School.

Tre Naylor and Maurice Clemons both scored 14 points for Northeast, which led 25-20 at the half.

“We got off to a slow start,” head coach Lewis Lightsey said. “As we got into the game, we wore them down a little bit. My two seniors (Naylor and Clemons) stepped up and hit a lot of shots, and we pulled away in the second half.

Northeast (13-14) will play Newton County High School at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

West girls 53, Caledonia 25

Keke Martin led the way with 20 points for West Lauderdale High School as the Lady Knights defeated Caledonia, 53-25, in the Region 4-4A tournament Tuesday at Leake Central High School.

Alexis Jenkins finished with 13 points for West Lauderdale, which was ahead 38-11 at the half and 49-19 at the end of the third quarter.

The Lady Knights will play again at 7 p.m. Thursday against Leake Central. The West Lauderdale boys will play also play Leake Central at 5:30 p.m.
