Inclement weather forces rain outs in local baseball, softball

MERIDIAN —    A storm system that moved through the area early Friday morning forced several local prep baseball and softball games to be postponed.

The softball matchup between Southeast Lauderdale High School and Northeast Lauderdale High School scheduled for Friday was cancelled, according to Southeast coach Ashlee Bailey. There is no word about a possible makeup date.

West Lauderdale High School’s scheduled softball game against Meridian High School Friday was also cancelled, according to West head coach Cary Luke. A makeup game isn’t scheduled at this time.

Newton High School’s baseball game at Clarkdale High School set for Friday was pushed back to 3 p.m. today, according to Clarkdale head coach Scott Gibson. The game will be played at Newton, and Clarkdale will turn around and play at Philadelphia at 6:30 p.m.

West Lauderdale’s baseball game against Noxubee County High School scheduled for Friday was moved to Monday at 6 p.m.

Lamar High School’s baseball games against Starkville High School for Friday and Clarkdale for Saturday have both been cancelled, according to Lamar head coach Bill Baldner. Lamar’s game with Clarkdale was cancelled because of Clarkdale’s game against Newton County being moved to today.
