Round up: Lady Tigers advance in East Central tourney

    The Southeast Lauderdale girls basketball team advanced to semifinal in the East Central Tournament Tuesday night with a 69-36 win over Newton County.

    Timarra Trussell led the way for the Lady Tigers with 28 points, while Shakira Shoemaker chipped in with 10 points. Caitlyn McCree led Newton County with 10 points.

    Southeast improved to 5-1 on the season and will face Choctaw Central on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Winston Academy (Girls) 66

Newton County Academy 20

    Darby Nowell led  the Winston Academy girls basketball team to a 66-20 win over Newton County Academy Tuesday night putting up 17 points for the Lady Patriots.

    The Lady Generals were led by Sky Watson who scored six points. Newton County Academy (1-2) will travel to Kemper Academy on Thursday.

Newton County Academy (Boys) 50

Winston Academy  30    

    The Newton County Academy boys basketball team rolled to an easy 50-30 win over Winston Academy Friday night.

    Chance Collins scored a game-high 20 points for the Generals and Nate Johnson added another 10 points for NCA.

    Winston was lead by Brock Baker who scored 10 points on the night.

    NCA improves to 3-2 on the season.

Russell Christian Academy (Girls) 44

Sumter Academy 38

    The Russell Christian girls basketball team came away victorious Tuesday night, taking down Sumnter Academy 44-38.

    Payton Lippert led RCA with 19 and was followed by Anna James with 11 points.

Russell Christian Academy (Boys) 59

Sumter Academy 49

    The Russell Christian boys basketball team took down Sumter Academy 59-49 Tuesday night.

    Ashton Temple led the Warriors with 22 points and was followed by Tyler Bolden and Drake McKenzie with 11 points.

Stringer 74

Clarkdale (Boys) 55

    The Clarkdale boys basketball team fell to Stringer 74-55 Tuesday night.

    Taylor Freeman led the Bulldogs with 13 while Garrett Gibson had 10 points.

    Clarkdale (0-2) will play Sebastopol Thursday night
