Southeast Girls Win At EC Tournament

DECATUR — The Southeast Lady Tigers took on the West Lady Knights Monday night in Decatur at the East Central Community College Tournament. The Lady Tigers came away with a 49-42 victory. Lady Tiger head coach Joe Miller was pleased with his teams' win.

    “Both teams were very sluggish coming out of the gate because of Thanksgiving,” Miller said. “I'm just proud our girls played tough, and got the win.”

    West took the opening quarter with a 15-11 advantage. However, the Lady Tigers controlled the second quarter 15-6 to take a 26-21 lead into halftime. The Lady Tigers built up the momentum winning the third quarter 17-11. The Lady Knights took a 10-6 advantage in the fourth, but it wasn't enough to get the win.

    Chariae Harvin scored 16 points, Timara Trussell added 12, Gabriel Cole chipped in 9. Keke Martin led West with 15 points while Mallary Thompson added 11.

    Southeast improves to 4-1 on the season, and will take on Newton County tonight at 7 p.m. West falls to 1-6 on the season.

   

Northeast Lauderdale 44

Union 33

    The Northeast Lady Trojans improved to 4-2 on the season after a 44-33 victory over Union in the ECCC Tourney. The Lady Trojans jumped out to a 12-0 first quarter lead. Union outscored the Lady Trojans 13-7 in the second. However, the Lady Trojans won the third quarter 11-6 while both teams scored 14 apiece to close out the game giving Northeast the win.

    Lady Trojan head coach Frederick Liddell was glad to see his girls hold Union scoreless.

    “For us to hold them scoreless was a big deal tonight,” Liddell said. “We had a great inside game going tonight, and I'm proud of the way we finished it out.”

    Shaqunta McDonald and Danielle Smith scored 10 apiece on the night. Dana Logan chipped in 9 while Brittany Williams added 7.
