Prep softball roundups: Clarkdale gets win in final day of tournament

MERIDIAN — Clarkdale High School’s Brianna Ivey scored the winning run in the seventh inning as the Lady Bulldogs’ softball team edged Franklin County, 8-7, Saturday at the Clarkdale Spring Fling Tournament.

Meredith Hunt was the winning pitcher for Clarkdale, and Heather Harwell tallied a double for the Lady Bulldogs.

“We struggled early defensive and with throwing strikes,” Clarkdale head coach Britt Bennett said. “We got in a hole, but we battled back, and the kids executed well. We scored twice on ground balls to the right side — and that was the tying and winning runs.”

Clarkdale (4-2) will play at Neshoba Central High School Monday.

Enterprise drops two

Enterprise High School fell to Ocean Springs, 9-7, and Smithville High School, 12-0, Saturday in the tournament.

In Game 2, Enterprise’s Emily Roberts took the loss. Enterprise managed just three hits, and no one had more than one hit.
