Lamar’s Olivia Mabry was named the 2013 winner of the MAIS Don Souder Award as the most outstanding female student-athlete in the 115-member Mississippi Association of Independent Schools during Lamar’s graduation ceremony on May 10.
Mabry was a varsity member on Lamar’s soccer, basketball and tennis teams and led the Lady Rebels to numerous district and regional championships. She is Lamar’s first recipient of the award.
“Olivia has just been an a leader across the board,” Lamar School Director of Advancement Christopher Price said. “She has led on the athletic fields as well as the classroom. She is president of four or five of the different organizations here on campus, including student council and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is a leader and an example both athletically and academically.”
Mabry did not know she had received the award until right before her graduation, as MAIS Director of Activities Les Triplett made a surprise visit to present her with the award.
Overjoyed with emotion, Mabry thanked her teammates and coaches who helped her achieve success and said the award was a great honor to her.
Mabry will be attending Mississippi College in the fall, were she will continue her playing career with the Lady Choctaw soccer team.
