The East Central Community College football team's first season under head coch Ken Karcher came to a close after a 49-7 loss to No. 5 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Decatur on Thursday night.
Six costly turnovers put the game out of reach for the Warriors as the Bulldogs scored in the first three quarters. A late 31-yard run by Lamarcus Franks with 9:41 left in regulation prevented the shutout. Franks rushed for 72 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries.
Gulf Coast got on the board early when Antwon Wells punched in a 1-yard score with 11:01 left in the first quarter. Justin Bristler ran for 5 yards for a second touchdown before the quarter ended to go up 14-0.
In the second quarter, the Bulldogs' Justin Evans caught and returned an interception for a 35-yard touchdown. Former Warrior quarterbck Culton Kane found Jeremey Cutreler for a 33-yard pass to make it 21-0.
Gulf Coast backup quarterback Terian Page connected with Dahaqulle Williams on a 4-yard touchdown pass with 6:09 left in the second quarter. TJ McCainn added a 20-yard run before the first half expired to take a 42-0 lead into the break.
McCainn added the Bulldogs final score with 39 seconds left in the third quarter.
With the loss, East Central fell to 1-8 on the season (0-6 MACJC South) while Gulf Coast finishes the regular season at 8-1 (5-1).
