JCJC softball sweeps doubleheader

ELLISVILLE — The 15th-ranked Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats shined in an early season Top 20 showdown Friday afternoon at Community Bank Park.

Samantha Buller allowed two hits and Tori Dew slugged her fourth home runof the season as the Lady Bobcats defeated No. 16 Illinois Central College 9-1 in six innings in Game 1 of a doubleheader.

In Game 2, Lauren Holifield tossed a five-inning shutout and had three hits as JCJC posted an 8-0 decision.

The Lady Bobcats improve to 9-0, while Illinois Central falls to 3-5.

Both teams will be participating in the Gwen Magee Invitational on Saturday at JCJC.

The event opens with the Lady Bobcats facing Faulkner State Community College (Ala.) at 11 a.m., followed by ICC vs. Faulkner State at 1 p.m. Baton Rouge Community College (La.) battles ICC at 3 p.m. and JCJC faces BRCC at 5 p.m.

The Lady Bobcats are scheduled to travel to Pensacola State College (Fla.) for a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Monday.
