Roundup: Wildcats close out regular season with win

MERIDIAN —     The Meridian Wildcats closed out the 2013 regular season with a solid 42-25 victory against Forest Hill and an 8-3 overall record.

    Meridian's Richard McQuarley started the scoring in the first quarter with a one-yard touchdown run. Kicker Aaron Garrett added the PAT, his first of six on the night.

    The Wildcats ran wild in the second quarter. J'Mar Smith connected with Tray Warren on a 47-yard touchdown pass and Daniel Crowell on a 36-yard touchdown pass. McQuarley also added a two-yard touchdown run.

    In the third, Austin Holt got in on the action with a 22-yard touchdown run. McQuarley added a 13-yard touchdown run.

Oak Forest        34

Lamar            14

    The Lamar Raiders suffered a tough 34-14 road loss at Oak Forest Friday.

    Oak Forest struck early with a 69-yard touchdown run on their first series.

    Lamar answer with a one yard touchdown run by freshman quarterback Davis Harrison.

    In the second quarter. Oak Forest found the end zone on a one yard run with 9:24 remaining on the clock.

    Lamar got back in the end zone on a 30-yard pass from Harrison to senior wideout Joseph Marcello. The score was tied at 14 with 3:07 left in the first half.

    Oak Forest was not through though as they scored again on a ten yard toss with 13 seconds left in the half. Lamar went to the locker room trailing 21-14.

    The third quarter was all defense as neither team was able to score.

    With 4:09 left in the fourth quarter, Oak Forest put another touchdown on the board long pass. The PAT failed leaving the score at 27-14. Seconds later, an Oak Forest defender picked off a Lamar pass at the 20 yard line and ran it in for a touchdown. The PAT left the score at 34-14.

Franklin        42

Calvary        12

    Calvary Christian suffered a 42-12 loss to Franklin Academy Friday night in MAIS football action.

    Calvary's first score came in the first quarter on a 52-yard rush from Michael Brantley. The Cougars also scored in the fourth quarter on a 45-yard pass from Josh Roberts to Jared Crum.
