EC sweeps MCC
Led by a strong pitching performance in both contests and a productive offense in the nightcap, East Central Community College’s fast-pitch softball team recorded a pair of victories against rival Meridian Community College on Thursday.
Tenna Patterson shut down the MCC offense in a 2-0 win in the opener, and fellow sophomore hurler Mary Smith allowed just two runs and EC bats came alive for a 14-2 thumping in the second contest as the Warriors even their record at 4-4 under first-year head coach Kristin Chaney.
Patterson fanned eight batters and walked two in the seven-inning battle.
EC got all the runs it needed in the fourth inning, on an RBI double from freshman Morgan Porter of Enterprise. Porter also singled to lead the offense.
In the second contest, EC tallied eight runs in the first three innings and coasted to the easy win.
A two-run homer by Amber Broom of Brandon helped fuel the offensive attack.
