Lady Bobcats reach MACJC finals with win over Pearl River

FULTON — Caitlyn Spane's putback off an offensive rebound with 43.4 seconds remaining gave the Jones County Lady Bobcats the lead for good as they defeated the Pearl River Community College Lady Wildcats 74-71 in the MACJC semifinals Wednesday at Itawamba Community College.

JCJC, 18-7, will face Southwest for the championship at 6 p.m. today.

The Lady Bears beat Meridian 72-64 in the other semifinal game.

 Spane's basket gave JCJC a 70-69 lead. After a PRCC turnover, Kaylan Hughes made two free throws to give the Lady Bobcats a 72-69 lead with 19.3 seconds left.

Deandra Darjean missed a shot for the Lady Wildcats, Spane got the rebound and was fouled with 8.7 seconds to play. She converted a free throw to make it 73-69.

Darjean then scored with 3.2 seconds to play to make it 73-71. JCJC got the ball to Starla Daggans, who was fouled with 2.3 seconds to play. She missed

the first free throw, but missed the second.

PRCC got the rebound and called timeout. But the Lady Wildcats could not

get a shot off, and the Lady Bobcats secured the win.

Hughes had 18 points for JCJC, while Alyson Johnson added 15, Crystal Clay had 12 and Kadie Parker finished with 11.

Darjean had 24 points and 10 rebounds for PRCC, 16-6. Shanta’ Echols added 16 points, and Essence Pulliam had 13.
