Choctaw Central wins Region 5-3A championship

FOREST — Choctaw Central saw an up-and-down game end with a 54-46 victory against Forest High School in the Region 5-3A championship game Friday night.

Choctaw Central led 22-21 at the half but tallied 23 points in the third quarter to take a commanding 45-28 lead at the end of the frame. But Forest made things interesting late, even though Choctaw Central was able to hold on for the win.

“We got a 20-point lead, and they cut it to seven (in the fourth),” Choctaw Central coach Bill Smith said. “We had a few turnovers we didn’t need to have, and they hit a couple of 3s that got the crowd back in the game. It was just a momentum swing. But we made some clutch free throws and were able to hang on and pull it out.”

Melody Jimmie led Choctaw Central with 21 points, and Kandace Lasiloo chipped in with 15 points. Nautica Moore’s 14 points marked the only double-digit scoring effort for Forest.

Choctaw Central (24-6) will play next week in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.
