Southeast boys, girls fall in regional tourney

FOREST — Despite taking a 26-19 lead into the break, Southeast Lauderdale High School was unable to put Philadelphia High School away as the Tornadoes came back in the second half to win in overtime, 56-53, Thursday night in the Region 5-3A tournament at Forest High School.

Jamel Jenkins led Southeast in scoring with 12 points, while Damion Willis tallied 10 points for the Tigers.

The score was tied 44-44 at the end of regulation.

Sherman Bufkin scored a game-high 19 points for Philadelphia, and Romon Gray added 15 points for the Tornadoes. Josh Fulton chipped in with 10 points.

Southeast Lauderdale got the best of both regular-season matchups against Forest High School, but the third time was the charm for Forest as the Lady Tigers fell in the Region 5-3A tournament Thursday.

Tia Larkin had 15 points for Southeast, while Jamyla Jenkins finished the game with 12 points.

“We’ve been in the final four nine of the last 10 years, but it ain’t looking too good this year,” Southeast head coach Joe Miller joked. “We’ve just kind of struggled this year. We’re still hanging, but this put us in a hole. We have to go on the road Monday instead of hosting.”

Kadishua Williams had a game-high 16 points for Forest, and Nautica Moore chipped in with 14 points for the Lady Tornadoes.

Southeast fell to 20-9 on the season.
