West Lauderdale 6
Will Stokes led the West Lauderdale baseball team, as they took down Columbia 6-2 in the second round of the 4A state playoffs at West Lauderdale Saturday night.
Stokes (9-0) struck out 10 Columbia batters on the mound to earn the win for the Knights.
Colten Mckeithen had a single and a three-run home run for the Knights, and Fred Franklin also chipped in with two singles at the plate.
West Lauderdale (19-6) will travel to Columbia at 6 p.m. on Monday for Game 2 of the best-of-three series.
Southeast Lauderdale 14
West Marion 3
The Southeast Lauderdale baseball team took Game 1 of its second-round series against West Marion Saturday night, beating the Trojans 14-3.
Gage Hagan (5-1) earned the win for the Tigers on the mound, pitching six innings and striking out eight batters.
Mason Irby led Southeast at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Hunter Thrower also had a big night, going 2-for-5 with a three-run walk-off home run. Cody Shirley collected multiple hits for the Tigers as well.
Game 2 of the best-of-three series will be played Monday at 7 p.m. at West Marion.
The Clarkdale baseball team dropped its series opener to Richton 6-3 Friday night in the second round of the 2A state playoffs.
Jonathan Porter picked up the loss, pitching all seven innings while allowing six earned runs and striking out seven batters.
Levi Wedgworth went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Bulldogs at the plate.
Richton scored five of its runs in the top of the third inning after Clarkdale got out on top 1-0 in the bottom of the second.
Game 2 of the best-of-three series will be played Monday at 7 p.m. from Richton.
