West walks off winner, Clarkdale beats SEL

STRINGER — A walk-off home run by McKain Ortlepp in the bottom of the seventh inning kept West Lauderdale’s record unblemished as the Knights beat St. Aloysius High School Saturday.

With the score tied 1-1, Mason Wooldridge drew a walk to start the bottom of the seventh, and a bunt by Chase McClelland moved Wooldridge to second. But Ortlepp wouldn’t need the runner to be in scoring position as he jacked the ball over the 40-foot-high left field fence at Stringer to win the game.

Will Stokes started the game for West,, going five innings while striking out 10 and giving up two hits. Ryan Lane got the win in two innings of relief, surrendering no runs on four hits.

Fred Franklin, Blake Anderson, Wooldridge and Ortlepp each had a hit for the Knights.

The win puts head coach Jerry Boatner three wins away from the all-time wins record in the State of Mississippi. The Knights (4-0) play again at 6:30 p.m. Monday against Neshoba Central High School in the Rush Tournament at QV Sykes.

Clarkdale 4, Southeast 1

No one for either team had more than one hit. Josh Collum finished with an RBI and a stolen base for Clarkdale, and Mason Irby had an RBI double for Southeast.
