Boys championship game

Newton County 55

Heidelburg 36

    Devanta Hodges led the Newton County boys basketball team to a 55-36 win over Heidelberg in the championship round of the Newton County Invitational in Decatur Saturday night.

    Hodges scored 21 points for Newton County (13-3) while his teammate De Andre Wansley scored 17 points.


Girls championship game

Heidelberg 54

Newton County 49

    Kyesha Jones led the Heidelberg girls with a game-high 33 points as the Oilers took down Newton County in the  championship round of the Newton County Invitational.

    Newton County (12-5) was led by Dalmericka King with 18 points and Kyla Sheppard with 12 points

Boys consolation game

Southeast Lauderdale 56

Union 30

    The Southeast Lauderdale boys basketball team rebounded from a loss to Heidelberg Friday night by beating Union 56-30 Saturday night.

    Jake Smith had 10 points for Southeast, while Jarrett Jenkins, Damion Willis and Dale Morris had eight points apiece for the Tigers.

    Union was led by Quinton Campbell with nine points.

    Gabrielle Cole had a game-high 19 points to lead the Southeast Lauderdale girls basketball team past Union Saturday night.

    Shakira Shoemaker scored 13 points for the Lady Tigers, while Gracelynn Renville scored scored 12 points for Union
