NEL sweeps Sebastopol in West Classic

COLLINSVILLE- The West Holiday Classic kicked off Friday afternoon featuring four local schools. Newton County, Northeast, Sebastopol, and host West participated in the tournament.

     Northeast swept Sebastopol in the opening games of the tournament. The Lady Trojans won 61-37 while the Trojans escaped in the final minutes winning 54-48.

Trojans 54, Bobcats 48

    It was a tight game till the final buzzer went off. However, the Trojans used a strong opening quarter to separate the two squads, leading 14-7. Maurice Clemons scored on a driving lay-up with 5:40 left in the first half to send the Trojans on a 6-0 run and make the score 26-20.

    The Bobcats added a free throw by Chris Williams to end the run making it 26-21.

    The Trojans ended the half on a 12-0 run sparked by a Clemons jumper.

    With 3:38 left in the third quarter,  Williams hit a shot to send  the Bobcats on a 7-0 run, but they still trailed the Trojans at the end of the half 41-36.

    It was a nip and tuck fourth quarter, but the Trojans held on to win the game 54-48.

    Clemons led the way for Northeast with a game high of 22 points.

    Williams paced the way for the Bobcats netting 16. Eric Banks chipped in 15. With the win, the Trojans improve to 6-7 on the season. The Bobcats fall to 9-3.

Lady Trojans 61, Lady Bobcats 37

    The Lady Trojans closed out the first quarter leading Sebastopol 14-7. With 3:59 left in the half Dana Logan’s trey sent the Lady Trojans on a 13-0 run making it 30-16. Northeast led 35-20 going into halftime.

    The Lady Trojans outscored the Lady Bobcats 17-10 in the third quarter. Sebastopol outscored the Lady Trojans 14-9 to finish the game.

    Brittney Williams netted 22 for the Lady Trojans. Logan added 19. Holly Summers scored 10 points while Pharrah Butler chipped in eight.

    Northeast improves to 8-5 with the win while Sebastopol falls to 7-4 on the season.
