Roundup: Twenty games on tap today for Lauderdale County Soccer tourney

MERIDIAN — Meridian High School and the four Lauderdale County schools will meet at Northeast Park today for the annual Lauderdale County Soccer Tournament. The round-robin tournament will feature a points system to determine the boys and girls winners.

Each team receives five points for a win, two points for a tie, three points for a shutout and one point for each goal up to five in a game.

The tournament begins at 8 a.m. and runs through games starting at 5 p.m. with games scheduled to start every hour. Field 2's slate of action includes West Lauderdale vs. Northeast Lauderdale boys, West vs. Northeast girls, Clarkdale vs. Meridian boys and Clarkdale vs. Meridian girls, NEL vs. Southeast Lauderdale boys and girls, MHS vs. West boys and girls and Southeast vs. Clarkdale boys and girls. Field 3's games are MHS vs SEL boys and girls, SEL vs. West boys and girls, West vs. Clarkdale boys and girls, Clarkdale vs. NEL boys and girls and NEL vs. MHS boys and girls.

DJ Mitchell scored 11 points and James added 10 as the Trojans topped the defending Class 3A state champion WIldcats on Friday.

Northeast, which improved to 5-1, returns to action in the East Central Tournament next week.

Kemper was led by Albert Creer’s 10.

Jasmine Bush and Crystal Clay both recorded double-doubles and the Tigers rolled past the Knights on Thursday.

Bush led Southeast, which will take a 6-0 mark and the top seed into next week's East Central Tournament, with 23 points, 18 rebounds and six blocked shots, while Clay added 16 points and 11 rebounds. Kamisha Pringle and Tay Ruffin each added 18 points.

West was led by Mallory Wooldridge's 14.

The Knights will head into next week's East Central Tournament undefeated after defeating the Tigers on Thursday. JD Williams led 6-0 West with 18 points while KD Edmonds added 17.

LaDerek Armstrong led Southeast with 13.
